Prescriptives is Being Discontinued

Could Estee Lauder be feeling the pinch of the country’s current economic recession? Just as General Motors discontinued their Pontiac line of cars in order to streamline the company, Estee Lauder is discontinuing their Prescriptives cosmetics line. Estee Lauder’s new chief executive Fabrizio Freda announced that the company will be closing all retail counters globally, effective January 31, 2010.

Prescriptives pioneered the “colorprinting” system of matching foundation to one’s skintone. Skintones were divided into four groups: yellow/orange, red/orange, red, and blue/red. Complementing makeup such as lipstick, blush, and eyeshadow were also grouped into these color groups to ensure a complete palette that uniquely complemented one’s coloring.

While all retail Prescriptives counters will close on January 31, you can still order from while supplies last. The one item spared the chopping block is the company’s signature fragrance, Calyx, which will continue to sell after the Prescriptive counters close. It will be available online and in department stores beginning February 1, 2010.
